Dr. Pedro Vargas Ávalos

My first contact with the Palo Alto Brief Therapy model was through the reading of Gregory Bateson and his Double Link hypothesis during the third year of the career. My interest was to understand especially the nature of human behavior, in fact then I did not even think about practicing psychotherapy. Then came the reading of Human Communication Theory and it was already inevitable to look with that lens at all human interaction. By 1991 I had my first training with Richard Fisch and John Weakland and from that moment my professional practice was defined by the Brief Therapy in the batesonian interactional vision. I was taking more workshops with the Brief Therapy Center group of the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, including Watzlawick and Karin Schlanger during the ’90s’ and made visits to Palo Alto to attend residences and supervision very consistently, At least twice a year since 2009. Today I offer psychotherapeutic treatment with the Brief Therapy Center’s Problem Resolution Model for a wide range of situations that consider both the individual and couples and families.
