Nearly 60 Years of Innovation and counting
In 1966, a group of innovators at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto—Dr. Richard Fisch, John Weakland, Arthur Bodin, and Paul Watzlawick—founded the Brief Therapy Center and launched a revolution in psychotherapy. They developed Problem-Solving Brief Therapy, a radically effective model that challenged traditional, long-term methods by proving that targeted, strategic interventions could bring about significant change in just a few sessions.
Their groundbreaking work laid the foundation for approaches like Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and EMDR. Today, the Brief Therapy Center carries their legacy forward, offering in-person and online trainings to hundreds of new trainees each year and continuing to serve as a global hub for professionals seeking ethical, results-driven therapy.
